Wednesday 9 September – FASD Awareness Day 2026

Today is FASD Awareness Day

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is one of the most common, yet least recognised, neurodevelopmental conditions in Scotland.

FASD can affect physical health, brain development, learning, communication and everyday life. Without the right support, individuals may face significant challenges across education, employment, mental health and independent living.

Research shows that many people with FASD experience:

• Mental health difficulties
• Challenges with learning and education
• Difficulties gaining and maintaining employment
• Problems with independent living
• Co-occurring health and developmental conditions

Greater awareness, earlier identification and appropriate support can improve outcomes and help individuals with FASD thrive throughout their lives.
