Addiction Psychology Service

The Addiction Psychology Service deliver evidence-based direct and indirect psychological care to support people in their recovery journey in a person-centred and trauma informed way. This includes providing one-to-one interventions, group-based interventions, collaborating with the wider addiction team and providing training, consultation and coaching to staff. The Addiction Psychology Service have clinics with in the four localities in South Lanarkshire: Hamilton, CamGlen, Clydesdale and East Kilbride.

To access the Addiction Psychology Service in one of the four localities, individuals, need to be working with the wider addiction teams.  Participants of the Beacons can access psychology within the Beacons by arranging a referral and assessment appointment with one of the clinicians who will help them consider readiness and suitability for intervention and appropriate next steps.

The Beacons

The first responder and recovery hubs are a prototype originally envisaged and developed by people in recovery, those affected by someone else’s substance use, and grassroots activists. They are physical premises that offer a friendly space, delivering a host of recovery opportunities and formal support at point of need, creating pathways between formal service provision and the community. There are 4 sites, Blantyre, Cambuslang, Lanark, and soon East Kilbride. For more details check our website.

Blood borne Virus (BBV) Prevention, Testing, Treatment and Care Network

The Lanarkshire wide BBV Network consists of a variety of services focused on preventing transmission of BBV infections (HIV and Hepatitis). It consists of a wide range of services offering prevention advice, BBV testing, specialty services providing treatment/management of infection and care services to support people living with BBV infection.

CAReS

CAReS – Community Addiction Recovery Services

CAReS is the statutory treatment services provided within the Health and Social Care Partnership, South Lanarkshire. We can provide a full assessment of your needs and co-ordinate your health and social care recovery with you. This may include help with detoxing from alcohol or drugs, substitute prescribing, talking therapies or harm reduction information. There is a combination of health and social care staff within our service. Once we have spoken with you we can decide together who might be the best person to help you in your recovery.

How can I get help from CAReS? – Your GP or social care professional can refer you to the service. Alternatively, you can self-refer to CAReS by contacting one of the numbers below.

EQUAL SAY

Independent advocacy is about speaking up for an individual or a group. It helps advocacy partners to have a stronger voice and as much control as possible over their own lives. Advocacy workers help to put forward their partner’s views and wishes, and provide information to support their partner’s decision-making.  Addictions Advocacy is for any adult (16+) who lives in South Lanarkshire who has a drug or alcohol addiction. This could include their family members. Our support is free and confidential.

Free Service

My Support Day is in partnership with Liber8 to deliver the service FREE – Family Recovery Everyone Everywhere. This service is based across South Lanarkshire to access one-to-one support, group support, learning and development and events for the whole family. This service will also offer counselling, mediation and therapeutic services to Individuals using the service which can tailor their support to suit their needs.

Givit

The GIVIT – Youth Recovery Service

The GIVIT is an intensive service for young people aged 13-25 living in South Lanarkshire with problematic alcohol or substance use. We provide one to one support, CBT counselling, peer mentoring and community based recovery hubs where young people can be supported in open and inclusive spaces.

Harm Reduction Team

The Harm Reduction Team covers both North and South Lanarkshire through a well-travelled outreach van. They also provide services in various clinics and third sector services across Lanarkshire. Their philosophy is based firmly within a harm reduction approach,  decreasing the negative consequences of recreational drug use and any related activity without requiring abstinence. We recognise that those unable or unwilling to stop current drug use can still make positive changes that can protect themselves and others. Services we provide include information,  testing for BBV and SH issues, access to sterile injecting equipment and other injecting drug related health interventions

My Support Day

This is a charity based within South Lanarkshire which supports families and loved ones who have been affected by someone else’s substance use. The support is person centered, and individuals are supported via 1:1, support group both face to face and online. My Support Day are provision holders and distributors of Naloxone. Referrals can be made via the website.

Navigator Logo

The Navigator Project

Launched in 2015, Navigator is a violence and harm reduction programme based in Accident and Emergency Departments throughout Scotland. This service model supports people (patients) towards healthier lives through a combination of hospital and community-based support.

Navigator staff connect with patients presenting into accident and emergency and work with them in the community upon discharge, supporting and signpost them to services that can assist them to make changes in their lives.  The service supports individuals with a wide range of complex issues, namely violence, alcohol and other drug related problems, mental health issues, domestic abuse, homelessness, social isolation, and debt. Within Lanarkshire the service is in Hairmyres UH and Wishaw General.

REACHOUT

The new South Lanarkshire Alcohol & Other Drugs REACHOUT Service is working within the Alcohol & Drug Partnership to establish a service focusing on supporting people over the age of 16 with problematic alcohol & drug use through an Assertive Outreach and Intensive Case Management model. The service will operate 7 days a week including evenings and public holidays.

SACRO AYE

In partnership with South Lanarkshire Alcohol and Drug Partnership and local Justice Services, Sacro provides a support service for people who have been arrested and charged by Police Scotland. To use the service, they should be resident in the South Lanarkshire area and have alcohol and/or drugs involved in any charges. AYE offers Arrest Referral, Diversion from Prosecution and Bail Supervision and Mentoring services.

SACRO Connect

In partnership with South Lanarkshire Alcohol and Drug Partnership and local Housing Services. Sacro now provide a support service for South Lan residents who are serving short term sentences in HMP Addiewell and looking to return to their local authority after release. The Sacro Connect Team will engage and support people pre and post release with a specific focus on individuals who have alcohol and drug use experience. Some of our key objectives will include encouraging change, building recovery/social capital and promoting desistance.

Along with key partners, Sacro Connect will support throughout the persons journey to make the transition along the homestraight back into their community as stress free and empowering for those who use our service as possible.

Substance Misuse Liaison Nurse Service

The Substance Misuse Liaison Nurse Service is a nurse led service based within the three acute hospital settings of University Hospital Hairmyres, University Hospital Monklands and University Hospital Wishaw and operates Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm. The service provides expert advice, care and treatment for individuals aged 16 and over within the acute hospital setting as well as offering advice and support to families, friends and staff. The service ensures the safe management of the acutely unwell patient with co-existing drug and/or alcohol problems and aims to improve access to addiction services through signposting and referral to community services, including liaison with partnership agencies to provide seamless transfer to community care.

Interventions include: Medical management of acute withdrawal – Substitute prescribing – Harm reduction interventions – Overdose prevention – Access to naloxone – Advice and support – Liaison with partnership agencies  – Signposting and referral to community addiction services 

Inpatient referrals are received from hospital wards and an outpatient telephone clinic operates Monday to Friday for referrals from the Emergency Department and hospital outpatient clinics.

Young Person Peer Education Harm Reduction Service

The project focuses on training young people (12 – 18 years) through supporting Peer Educators, early intervention and prevention for young people looking to address stigma and reduce harm caused by alcohol and drugs within their local communities.

Peer Educators will receive 1:1 support from workers and attend weekly group sessions to build on their confidence, leadership skills and work towards qualifications in a safe and nurturing environment.
